FAQs

How do I know I’m ready for therapy?

The only person who can answer this question is you.

By being here, and coming to this page, that tells me that there is some part of you that is ready. But if it’s only one small part, that’s okay. Sometimes, that’s all you need to start.

Beginning therapy can be intimidating and scary. Finding a therapist can be intimidating and exhausting.

Take your time and take a breath. I would be happy to meet with you for a free consultation and explore this question together.

Why do you offer free consultations?

The therapeutic relationship is the most essential component in the therapeutic process. Before beginning therapy, it’s important to know your therapist is the right fit. Myself and my style might not be for you or what you’re looking for, and that’s okay. That’s why I offer free, no obligation to continue consultations where we can get to know each other and determine if I’m the right therapist for you!

Why are sessions 50 minutes?

Our clinical time together is 50 minutes long.

Us therapists call this the “50-minute-hour.” 50 minutes of uninterrupted time together, and the remaining 10 minutes are used for administrative tasks relating to you, such as billing, booking, and notes!

Do you take insurance?

At this time I do not do direct billing to insurance companies. It is up to you to ensure your insurance covers Registered Psychotherapists. You can pay via e-transfer or credit card and will be given a detailed receipt to submit for your insurance claim.

Don’t have insurance? Be sure to keep your receipts to deduct psychotherapy services on your annual income tax return!

How long will I be in therapy for?

Everyone’s therapeutic journey is different, so there is no concrete answer.

Some individuals come to therapy to work on specific goals and feel ready to phase out as they accomplish their goals. Other individuals appreciate having someone they can connect with for ongoing support through various life concerns.

Ultimately, my goal as a therapist is to work myself out of a job. I want to support you in creating tools and strategies that meet your needs to confidently and happily tackle life and its challenges on your own.

Do I need a referral to start therapy?

The only referral you need is from yourself, a.k.a. no referral necessary! Some general physicians may suggest for individuals to seek psychotherapist services, but anyone is welcome to seek support!
